KMRE listeners are used to listening to interesting varieties of music. I’ve listened at different times where I can hear a classic, a southern twangy song, then a local Bellingham band all within 30 minutes. This range, to me, keeps the KMRE radio station interesting, fun and full of discovery.
Like KMRE, Bellingham bands have an expansive variety. I would consider myself a beginner when it comes to local bands. I’ve seen live music, all over town, but I can’t say I know any one band over another. I believe summer 2021 is going to be when this changes for me. Why, you might ask. Well, here you go, there are bands performing in Elizabeth Park.
I’m going to be presumptuous here and say most ‘Hamsters have a beautiful, wonderful experience in Elizabeth Park. When I first discovered Elizabeth Park I was on a random walk, I had lived here for about a year, and I found myself in this beautiful quaint little park. After that, I knew it was love. I’ve even hammocked in Elizabeth Park:
Before I get to my quest to graduate from beginner to novice I want to talk about a few little tidbits about Elizabeth Park I thought was interesting. Elizabeth Park is considered to be Bellingham’s first official park. A man named Henry Roeder donated 4.5 acres to Bellingham in 1883. The park was named in honor of Mary Elizabeth Austin Roeder, Henry Roeder’s wife.
Interesting little facts, huh? Ok, enough education, on to the rocking out. Tonight was the first Elizabeth Park Summer Concert. The Elizabeth Park Summer Concert series is a free concert in Elizabeth Park at the gazebo. Concerts start at 6:00 and are scheduled every Thursday through September 2. Here is the concert line up for the rest of the summer:
My personal experience was that Cheryl Hodge was awesome. I’m not a huge Jazz person, but I loved seeing all of the people brought together to listen to a wonderfully talented woman and experience the greatness of live music. Attendees brought chairs and blankets and enjoyed themselves. I got to Elizabeth Park at about 6:00 and struggled to find parking. Here are some pictures from tonight’s concert:
