Did you know there is an underground organization in Bellingham. An organization preying on Bellingham residents emotions. An organization taking real life events and telling stories about them…stories to make you laugh.
I found out last night that Bellingham Comedy is a thing. Obviously comedy in Bellingham is a thing, but there’s an organization called Bellingham Comedy and if you follow them you can see where stand up is happening throughout Bellingham. Let me explain how I found this out.
While cruising Cascadia Weekly for upcoming events and saw there was an open night, night at The Local. I thought, I haven’t seen comedy in a long time, why not. Well, I can tell you why not, it started at 9:00 on a Thursday. I haven’t been out, starting at 9:00 since probably 2015, especially on a Thursday. Ok, enough negativity about that (though I did take a nap before).
I showed up at The Local at 8:30, not knowing how busy it might be. The Local was technically closed, I mean kind of, they were directing people into the Annex (which is directly connected to The Local). Showing up early paid off because I was able to get a table and it really started to fill up at about 8:45.
The show started about twenty minutes after 9:00. Each comedian did a 5 minute set. It was exciting to hang out and listen to local comedians tell jokes about the community we live in, the problems we are facing, and all around hilarious stories. While the jokes were flying, the Bellingham Comedy organization was mentioned and I got so excited because, it turns out, I love stand up comedy. Find Bellingham Comedy on Facebook if you want to find out when the next open night is and where.
If you are looking for something going on this weekend, there is a Pop-up Pride Parade on Sunday July 11th. The parade starts at Waypoint Park at 1:00 and travels up Chestnut to Depot Market Square and ends at 4:00. If you didn’t get enough Pride in June, it’s a great way to parade a little and show love is love.
