Tis the season to start “the” shopping. Consumerism is at its highest and finest and November is usually a time where I start talking about the amazing local artists like I did last year in Local & Bazaar and How Bazaar! Not this November (I’ll save that for the emergency gift searches in December). If you are looking for some of the upcoming amazing local stores and pop ups here’s a quick list:
I mean these are only a few around
Today I want to talk about feminism, dreaming big, and adventure. This week I found myself at Aslan, in a standing room only, drinking a beer and appreciating the excitement of winter sports. I’ve written about past events, in the summer, about free showings of movies: Rooftop Cinema, but this is the first year I’ve checked out a winter themed movie.
In my personal experience, I learned to snowboard when I was in highschool. I was lucky enough to go to Mission Ridge in Wenatchee on ski buss and even learned I was accepted into Western while snowboarding. As time has gone by, my own gleam for winter sports has decreased due to life and excuses and bla bla bla. Watching The Approach 2 really got me inspired.
The movie was a short movie, but just enough to wet the appetite for making the best out of the winter. Brooklyn Bell, Sophia Rouches, and Anna Cleary were there to answer questions after the movie, which was primarily a beautiful work of art covering the amazing adventure to the peak Chugach Mountains in Alaska and snowboarding and skiing of course. One of the things that really resonated with me about this film was the amount of support the women offered each other was truly remarkable.
I hope everyone has very Happy Holidays full of positive vibes, breaths of fresh air and an appreciation for winter sports if you find yourself at any winter sport screenings.
