Art is alive in Bellingham! No one was questioning that, but the variety and offerings of Whatcom artists are always surprising, impressive, and quintessentially creative. This can be seen everyday, on our streets, at our favorite coffee shops and at various events or galleries. One of the greatest options I’ve found for checking out some hip and exciting art is at the Rebel Artists of Whatcom street event.
I went to the Rebel Artists of Whatcom event recently and found a ton of beautiful and awe worthy art. I walked there from my apartment, the convenience of living downtown and found six individual pop-up tents set up with a plethora of offerings of different types of art. There were paintings, photographs and even handmade soap. Rebel Arts of Whatcom is a “collective of small, local artists and artisans.” Here are some of the things I saw:
Rebel Artists of Whatcom are encouraged to visit their Facebook page if you are curious which artists plan on attending. This is based on the fact that the artists are always changing. Rebel Artists of Whatcom is every Saturday from 3 pm to 6 pm and is located at Commercial St. Plaza (just outside of the Parkade).
I wanted to talk about another event coming up, The It’s Almost Summer Fund Drive. You might have heard about KMRE’s fund drive while listening to KMRE or on KMRE’s Facebook. Our event starts tomorrow and we are asking for donations, large or small to keep the radio going. If you aren’t aware, KMRE is dreamt up completely by creative volunteers. Working with KMRE, writing and being a part of different aspects of the radio has changed my life and empowered me. Please consider donating and thank you for reading.
